TimSpect: Stack Scaling on Lorries

Easier, more efficient volume scaling and inspection of log ends on timber lorry loads.

Volume scaling as well as inspection of log ends to determine compaction and defects

Less demand on vehicle positioning. Scaling takes place when the vehicle drives through the scaling system’s gateway. This allows for accurate scaling even if the vehicle is not perfectly aligned through the gateway.

The system is available in a mobile version for utilisation in more than one terminal or temporary terminals.

It requires significantly less space and site preparation than other systems. Only 10 metres of width is required which is less than half that of earlier systems.

How it works

  1. Cind’s equipment is installed at scaling sites.
  2. The equipment photographs the load on the timber lorry that passes through the scaling site.
  3. The images undergo 3D rendering and are then sent to the scaling centre where VMF personnel perform the scaling.
  4. At the same time, a quality assessment of the load is carried out by the Cind-supplied 2D cameras, which provide the scaling personnel with images of the load’s root and top ends.

Manual scaling of timber loads will be automated in future iterations of TimSpect so that the scaler automatically receives an external gross volume or, alternatively, an average block which encompasses the load. Measuring the degree of compaction will also be automated in product version 3.0. This will allow Cind to supply a net volume.
